Next Lens on My Hitlist...

For an upgrade on my kit lens, and to also enable better work in lower light conditions, I thinking of going for the Tamron 17-50 f2.8 XR Di II - VC Lens. What do you think?

Stacie - The second person to take part in my Draped Fabrics project

Stacie - Draped Fabric_0005, originally uploaded by Jon W. Howson.

Information:
Photographer: JonWHowson (Model Mayhem #725023/Purestorm)
Models: staciefoster (Purestorm)
Makeup: staciefoster (Purestorm)
Stylist: staciefoster (Purestorm)

Location: Scunthrope

A big thanks to Stacie for being willing to pose for this series. It was a pleasure to be able to work with more experienced models who know how to pose and what looks good without having to give them micro directions.

The lighting for this series of images was similar to the first set with Amie, with a soft box 45 degrees to the right of the camera. This time however, there was no lights on the background, but there was an additional flash situated upon my camera modified with a foam reflector to soften the light. (Details of this foam reflector can be found on Chuck Gardener's website DIY Reflector-Diffuser).

To see the earlier post when working with Amie, see the post An experiment into Art Nude and Draped Fabrics.

Clicking on the image at the top will take you to the series of images shot with Stacie.

If you, or you know someone that might be interested in posing for this project, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Inspiration is for Amateurs...?

In the article Inspiration is for amateurs; the rest of us just show up and get to work, it suggests that the best ideas come from being in the moment working and creating the images rather than sat about thinking about how to create an image. You also end up with a lot more work. What do you think?

For the masochists amongst us...

A link to Emmett Photography and his explanations of how to use your flash and work with guide numbers if you do not want to rely on the flash's e-ttl ability.

The Market has no taste...

The market has no taste by Seth Goldin

The link above reminded me that as an artist that we have to believe in ourselves and our products to achieve our own personal goals, ambitions and greatness. Else we would most likely settle into mediocrity and pandering to the general public. Then again, if you want to earn a living...
